IT'S
CANCER
The news left me feeling frigid and numb.
The drive home from the doctor's office seemed longer.
But I reasoned that I would not so easily succumb
And I knew that I would need encouragement to get stronger.
Yes…it's cancer.
It's not easy for me to share such shocking news
And this mountain won't be an easy one to climb.
But if you offer me sympathy, I'll politely refuse.
Please understand, it's an extremely difficult time.
Yes…it's cancer.
So, appreciate with me each sunrise and sunset.
Each full moon, each rainbow, each change of the seasons.
There are still rivers to cross -- because I'm not done yet.
But if you see tears, don't expect to get any reasons.
Because…it's cancer.
You're not obligated to laugh at my unfunny jokes
And don't deem each hug 'a final embrace'.
But daily in my corner, I need all of you folks
For this moment…for this time…for this place.

I JUST LOST
MY JOB
As I awakened to tranquility
With its sunshine, skies of blue.
But that peace turned into thunderstorms
I still can't believe that it's true.
I was fired, dismissed, they let me go --
Left without an income, but with shame.
The reason that I've been at home so much?
Because I haven't got a job to my name.
Until I find some steady work,
Things will be tight for a while.
I need your support more than ever
And don't deprive me of your smile.
Our dreams have not been canceled,
But they just might be delayed.
We've got each other to lean on.
Somehow, the bills will still get paid.

ROUGH FINANCIAL
SEAS
I know that you have your pride,
That you keep a lot inside.
It's hard to have your mind at ease
When on rough financial seas.
Turned down for loan after loan,
Keeping the struggles all your own.
They hit you like a rare disease,
The waves on rough financial seas.
I can't offer cash in bunches
To help you through financial crunches.
But, please just know that I am here
To give a smile, to lend an ear,
To drive the kids, to cook a meal --
Anything to ease what you feel,
Anything to lend a hand
Until you're safely on dry land.

YOU'LL GET THROUGH
THIS DIVORCE
As painful as divorce can be,
You'll get through it.
With loving family and friends like me,
You'll get through it.
With your determination and will,
You'll get through it.
Without medication – nary a pill,
You'll get through it.
Without having to leave town,
You'll get through it.
At times, you'll be feeling down, but
You'll get through it.
I'll proclaim, "I knew that you could do it".
By then, you will have gotten through it.

YOU GAVE IT YOUR
BEST SHOT
You were inches short of the goal line,
One sale away from a gold mine.
Win, lose, or draw – it matters not --
I know that you gave it your best shot.
One more right answer --- you pass the test.
Studied all night --- got little rest.
There's still so much in you – an awful lot.
I know that you gave it your best shot.
Don't tell me "almost doesn't count"
While you let your frustration mount.
I'm applauding you with all I've got.
I know that you gave it your best shot.
